Q. Who will take care of the Locking In Hope art installation in Riverside Park after all the locks have been attached? The Locking in Hope art installation is a unique partnership between the Kamloops Food Bank and the City of Kamloops. Kamloops City Council passed a motion to support the initiative in June 2018 and will be the guardians of this art installation, once complete, on behalf of the citizens of Kamloops.
Q. Will my locks come with keys and what should I do with the keys after my locks are attached to the installation in June 2019? Indeed each lock comes with a unique key. However, since we are inviting people to lock in hope indefinitely, we are also providing a unique receptacle as part of this art installation where all the keys will be deposited. So when you lock on, your lock will stay on forever. Hold on to your keys until the locking-on event on June 6, 2019.
Q. When I buy a lock am I making a donation to the Food Bank and if so, is it tax deductible? When you purchase locks for this unique art installation, you receive a tax receipt for the full amount of your purchase from the Kamloops Food Bank. It’s a unique opportunity to donate and get a deduction because what you are giving and receiving will remain part of this outdoor art installation forever more.
Q. How will I get my locks I have ordered?
The lock(s) will be available for pick up at the Kamloops Food Bank located at 171 Wilson between 7:30am and 3:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Orders over 50 locks have the option of being delivered to an address in the city of Kamloops.
All locks not picked up by June 5, 2019 will be made available at the unveiling ceremony to be held beside the installation at Riverside Park between 3:00 and 5:00 on June 6, 2019.
Q. Are there ways for me to support this in addition to buying locks?
Indeed, there are many ways to help lock in hope in our community.
Firstly, share, share, share. Share this project with your family, friends and co-workers and invite them to purchase their own locks.
Perhaps consider hosting a lock customizing event. What fun that could be. Invite friends or family to bring together paint, nail polish, sharpies, sparkles or whatever your creative mind can imagine – and have fun making your locks as unique as possible.
Then, plan to attend the installation event on June 6, 2019 at Riverside Park. And last but not least, please send us your story of why you purchased lock(s), who you are dedicating them to and why. Include a photo too. We want to share our community’s stories of why they are locking in hope.
